Gama L is manufactured from lignite and is acid-washed. Just like the bituminous carbon, it is provided with a broad pore range –from 2 up to 50 nanometers- with the difference that pore percentage is higher in 50 nm. This property allows it to be used for purification of fluids containing contaminants of different molecular sizes.

Gama-L has a less density than the bituminous-based and coconut shell-based carbons. With this characteristic, back flushing maintenance becomes much easier since it requires less water flow in order to expand the carbon bed. Thus, the energy consumption used in this operation is less. The ideal particle size for all these applications in liquid phases are 8x30-mesh, since it has an optimum balance between adsorption velocity –which increases with size decrease-, and pressure drop caused in the fluid treated which increases with the smallest size.
